While at FOB Menelaus, the ensign was grabbed by a hopper and dropped from a significant distance landing on their leg. The patient was brought to a medical tent. Patient's right ankle noted to have significant swelling and bruising turning purple. Significant levels of pain. Suspected to be an internal/closed fracture. No external damage or broken skin noted but levels of pain and swelling beyond what was expected of a simple sprain. |
Treatment | A dose of local anaesthetic and muscle relaxant was applied around the ankle to a) reduce swelling/inflammation and b) to allow for the safe application of a splint/bandage combination.
Once the dose was applied and began working, a foam splint was applied on either side of the ankle and secured using an elastic bandage. Patient evacuated to the UCF Hiroo Onoda for further scans and possible surgical intervention. |
