Patient was struck in the right thigh with a bullet as a result of friendly fire. Severe arterial bleed noted. Class III hypovolemic shock; patient lost approximately 30% of TBV. |
| Treatment | A tourniquet was applied to stem the bleeding but this did not have the desired effect. There was no time to place another tourniquet due to rapidly developing situation on the ground. Wound cavity was filled with darpafoam and hemostatic gauze to control bleeding. Patient was evacuated within seven minutes of sustaining the wound. |
