History

The Highlanders can trace their roots back to a guerilla warfare unit of the rebel forces during the civil war of the European Alliance (2132-2133) that ultimately led to the founding of the Federation.

Founded and led by decorated war hero and freedom fighter Sergeant Ian McCulloch; the Highlanders enjoyed great success throughout the short war.

McCulloch, a decorated veteran who had learnt his trade fighting wars against both the Russo-Anglo-American Alliance and the Chinese Hegemony left behind a comfortable retirement to take up arms against his former paymasters following the brutal atrocity committed against its own people in Aberdeen by the European Alliance Defence Force (EADF) in January 2133.

Within short order, McCulloch was invited to form his own command - the Highlanders.

The Highlanders engaged in a highly successful campaign of guerilla warfare across the European continent over the following months, fighting boot to boot on the Iberian peninsula, toe to toe across the Swiss Alps, and door to door throughout the streets of Rome - where he and his men fought to their very last breath, outnumbered and outgunned, six days before the fall of Geneva and with it the oppressive regime of the European Alliance.

Founder Adam Ferguson had this to say about the Highlanders at a state memorial service some years later:

“If we, the Aberdeen Militia, were the spark, the Highlanders were the tinder. They bore forth a righteous, cleansing flame that delivered us the heads of the oppressors, and the liberty we are all so fortunate to enjoy today.”
