Personal Journal: Private Khalid Ibn Al-Walid, Service Number 500065, Mobile Infantry, 76th Highlanders "Hiyashi's Hydras"

JOURNAL ENTRY #1, DATE: DECEMBER 10th, 2320.

Hello to whoever may be reading this, I do not blame you for reading my journal. I probably died, if you find it, please bring it to my home village on the world of Hesperus, Colony Alpha Seven.

I finished Boot camp a few days ago, and now I've seen my new unit, the 76th Highlanders. I don't know what to make of them. They have many foul witches among their ranks, but they do not seem as bad as the ones we burned in the village when I was young, or as bad as my mother was for being a witch. I also attended a sermon with the Units Chaplain. Though he is not Muslim, he is a brother of the book and so I respect him. I hope one day I can become his assistant.

One of my fellow recruits attacked a warrant officer. They beat him really bad; I think he committed suicide. Though I can't say he did not deserve it, it is a shame to see a man commit the sin of taking his own life. May the Prophet save him.

I got in an altercation with a Lance Corporal and a Private First Class. They both seemed incredibly mentally unstable, I plan to leave them alone for now. Allah says I should forgive sinners, and the mentally ill alike.

JOURNAL ENTRY #2, DATE: DECEMBER 11th, 2320.

We went on a special training exercise today and I got to be part of a squad, Hiyashi's Hydras. Our rival is that other squad, the Reivers. From the other side of the dropship, they look like a family of monkey's you'd expect to see at the zoo, but I'm glad this is only a training exercise.

We did a lot of walking and fighting. We almost made it to the end and the captain gave us all combat commendations, I don't know if he deserved it, but we were ordered to beat one of the Corporals, I think for calling our Sarge a coward when she was getting a star. I made sure to give him a nice kick to the groin, because I think he was a member of the reivers.

Staff Sargeant gave me a new rank, "Private" So I guess I'm not a recruit anymore. May Allah bless her.

We took a nice photo; it will look good on my barracks wall.

After we got back to the base, the Staff Sarge took the rest of the squad to the lake for a swim. I had to complete my thirty-two prayers first, but then I felt Allah himself commanding me to jump in. I swam around for a while and then I saw it. The face of the devil. This terrible, massive evil fish attacked me and took my toe. One of the other privates tried to help me but I was able to paralyze it with a bite to the teeth. For once all those beatings the father gave me back in the village have come in handy. I hope the fish will feed my brothers and sisters of the MI, thank God for that medic Ramos who saved me and re-attached my toe! They cleared me for duty and thanked me for surviving, I will pray for that medic.
